This position is located in North Carolina.

Supervises all machine shop operations. Schedule shift operations and staffing needs to achieve production requirements. Responsible for shift quality, efficiency, safety, employee relations and security. Communicates shift activities with appropriate staff and other shift personnel. Responsible for enhancing manufacturing process through continuous improvement projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to and informs Manufacturing Manager of all shift activities relating to the manufacturing and assembly of scheduled production needs.
  • Supervises activities of department personnel. Duties include but are not limited to scheduling machine/work assignments and hours of work, training, associate performance reviews and communication
  • Schedule shift operations to meet production requirements.
  • Review quality of all shift operations and take required action to conform to quality standards or cease operations pending resolution of problem.
  • Achieve efficiency requirements by monitoring efficiency reports and productivity of shift personnel and equipment taking appropriate action as needed.
  • Know and conform to all safety requirements affecting operations and shift personnel.
  • Know and administer all plant policies as applicable.
  • Develop and maintain sound employee relations through fair and consistent administration of all duties and responsibilities.
  • To keep current with technology and legal requirements by attending seminars, reading appropriate literature and other means as appropriate.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining departmental expense budgets
  • Determine capital equipment needs and assist with budgeting process.
  • Recommends research to update inspection and testing techniques, instrumentation, and correlation of inspection and testing results with manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Sets up machines and equipment.
  • Supervises approximately 40 associates in the Machine Shop. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:
  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
